How to Enforce Child Support Agreements

When a couple with children goes through a divorce, one parent becomes the custodial parent, and the other parent is the non-custodial parent. The non-custodial parent will usually pay an agreed-upon amount of child support to the custodial parent, and this amount is typically stated in a couple’s divorce agreement. Unfortunately, there are instances in which a non-custodial parent refuses to make the child support payments required of him or her.

If your ex-spouse is failing to provide you with the child support payments you deserve, contact the Orlando child support attorneys of the Schlegel Law Group at 407-648-0280 today. Not receiving the child support payments you need can make your life very difficult and needlessly burdensome, and we can help you fight for the compensation you are owed.

Ways to Enforce a Child Support Agreement

The first action you can take if your child’s other parent is not making a support payment is to notify them in writing that payments have not been received. Sometimes this will work, and you will not have to take further action.

If your child’s other parent does not make support payments after your written notification, legal action may be necessary. At this point, it is best to contact an attorney and discuss your case. An attorney can help show that your ex-spouse is in violation of a court order, and can fight to hold him or her in contempt of court.
