Florida Education Commissioner Eric Smith has submitted what he calls a "very conservative" budget to the state, totalling $1.4 billion.  According to Smith, he wants to put a bigger emphasis on the importance of education beginning at home in the family.  Smith says that he wants families to take PTA board meetings as seriously as they do high school football games, and that the smaller budget reflects the state's goal of cutting costs while re-emphasizing the importance of education.
