According to a new report compiled and released by the US Census Bureau and the Department of Health and Human Services, only about half of the nation's custodial parents are receiving the full amount of child support payments which they're owed.
The report found that 46.8% of single parents owed child support received the full amount they were owed, while 29.5% – almost a third – received less than the full amount. Worse still, 23.7% received no payments at all. Close to a quarter of all custodial parents in the United States didn't receive a cent of the child support payments they're owed.
All told, only 62.7% of the $34.1 billion owed by Americans for child support was payed. This means there was an overall defecit of $12.7 billion.
