According to a survey conducted by GFK Roper and commissioned by Divorce360.com, people going through a divorce are more likely to turn to family and friends than professionals or other advisors. The study polled 1,500 divorced Americans.
60 percent of people said they turned to either family or friends when they needed help through their divorce. Among men, 26 percent said they turned to family and 25 percent said they turned to friends for support. 45 percent of women told surveyors they went to family in times of need, and 25 percent said they went to friends.
Only 7 percent said they initially sought help from professionals like attorneys, accountants, or financial planners. Another 7 percent turned to a religious or spiritual institution during their divorce, 5 percent sough help from therapists, and 4 percent attended support groups.
