Crystal Everitt, 30, of Brevard County, was arrested Oct 29 on suspicion of interfering in a child custody matter and child neglect after fleeing 10 months ago with her two children from a divorce battle.

Everitt is being held without bail in Clark County Jail. Her daughter, Journey Everitt, 8, and her son, Trust Everitt, 3, were reportedly last seen on Dec 22 in Melbourne, FL.

Both children were living at a Vancouver homeless shelter since June, and a worker became suspicious when Everitt refused medical care and food for the children. This resulted in the worker finding information online about Everitt’s daughter, Journey, who was reported as missing and they contacted the police.

Nearly 4 out of 10 American adults believe that marriage is becoming obsolete, according to a study completed by the Pew Research Center and Time Magazine. In addition, U.S. census data revealed that in September, the nation hit an all-time low for marriages with only 52 percent of the adult population being married.

“Marriage is still very important in this country, but it doesn’t dominate family life like it used to. Now there are several ways to have a successful family life, and more people accept them,” said a professor of sociology at Johns Hopkins University. The study interviewed 2,691 adults, analyzed census data and compared these with Time’s studies on families from previous years.

Currently, 29 percent of American children live with a parent or parents that are divorced, separated or have never been married. This is 5 times higher than the number of children in 1960. 6 percent of these children have parents that are together but choose not to be married.

Dwight Howard sued the mother of his 2-year-old son for $9.2 million after comments she wrote online. He also sued to increase the custody of his son. She is now fighting back against this.

Although, she apologized for some of the comments she posted on her twitter, she is asking for court protection of her son. She wants Howard to secure his gun collection, put a gate around the swimming pool and secure his three dogs. Her biggest issue is that she feels he does not "personally particpate" in the mediation of their son. She alleges that he did not even contact his child on his birthday.

A recent study has shown that individuals in blue-collar industries have been hit especially hard by the recession, and divorce rates among this demographic have risen significantly in recent months. Job losses have hit men the hardest, accounting for nearly 75% of the total unemployment claims.

Where nearly 5% of college-educated men reported layoffs and job-loss, the number was significantly higher for non-college educated men at 11.1 %. Along with the loss of employment, reported cases of depression and divorce have increased greatly.

Experts are concerned that divorce rates will again spike when the recession ends, and many believe that most cases will be found among the working-class, further widening the divide between college-educated and blue-collar Americans.
