A Florida interest group has hired lobbyists to push state legislators to enact a cap on alimony payments, which would limit alimony to a mere three years.&nbsp; This would mean that dependent former spouses would no longer receive support payments after they had been divorced for three years.

The interest group believes that alimony as a concept stems from an outdated culture in which women were not allowed into the workforce, especially once they had married.&nbsp; However, alimony can be necessary following many divorces, and there is much debate over whether legislation like this could get passed.
